Reflexions

“So where can I use this activity in my sessions?”

A juvenile question that even I have been guilty of asking, in my days as novice to the world of facilitation.

In some further unfortunate cases, it’s the Lead Facilitator himself whose USP is “use this 1 activity and run 15 topics and 5 sessions and earn 10x”
Sigh.

About 3 years ago when I debuted into the ambiguous world of learning and development and facilitation, I have asked the most ridiculous questions that my mentor Ganesh Dalvi, CPF laughingly recalls to date. But it’s by asking those very questions that I was able to arrive at refined understanding and insights about this “alien”. (Can’t discount GD’s patience and empathy, to answer those questions)

Allow me to break this down with a metaphor.

These Facilitation/Facilitraining workshops flooding the market, are not a place to focus on learning some 4-5 signature recipes from the head chef and then mastering them, and duplicating those in your own chain of restaurants.
Instead, use this time and the expertise to familiarise yourself with the ingredients in the kitchen. The touch, feel, smell and taste of ingredients; the technicalities of texture and colours on a plate; the science of combination and flavour pairing; the colour theory and presentation; nutrition quotient; the play of temperature and proper use of various equipments in the kitchen- et al.
Then, leverage this input, to play around and create your own recipes.

Where can I use this activity in my session, is like asking where can I use salt in the kitchen? Well, doesn’t that depend on whether you’re looking at making a pudding or pickle?

Happy “cooking”!
