4 years ago, when Réflexions was at a very nascent stage, and I was novice to the world of hashtag#learninganddevelopment, I used to sit and write down all the questions for a diagnosis call, write down the session flow, pen-to-paper.
Over the years, while I still write my session flow down before every session, penning the questions for diagnosis somewhere faded away.
I’ve picked up this habit again, and not only does it help me think with clarity, but it’s also improved the quality of my probing. Getting more details with fewer, more tailored questions has enhanced the overall diagnosis process, and albeit client interactions.
In frame- snapshot from earlier today, with a list of questions, desired outcomes, expectations, and overall points to ponder with the client.
And what took me by surprise was, what I assumed would be a rather long discussion was all wrapped up in about 30 minutes, yielding so many vivid insights.
That’s the power of effective probing.
One practice I’ve been leaning towards again
