As you know, this year marks my 10th year working. Not gonna lie, this decade-long career trajectory has been equal parts of enriching, abundant, wholesome, angsty, erratic, and turbulent.
Over the decade, I’ve dabbled into 7 industries. Some jobs, I flirted with; some others, I had a long standing affair with. And then finally I took the plunge of “settling down” by birthing Réflexions Learning Solutions. This baby is a 3-year old toddler now.
It’s nostalgic as I go down the memory lane.
1) Started off ad hoc with an internship at a Pune-based event management company. Flagged off 2 UHNI weddings that made us work from dusk to dawn.
2) Then began my stint with Dentsu India. One of my biggest learning grounds. Made some of my closest friends here. Over a year-long gig, I explored several possibilities and my potential with them. This was during the CEO transition from Vivek Bhargava to Rubeena Singh. They were both so supportive and encouraged me to explore. Here, I did:
– Content Writing: fashion beauty finance nbfc travel hospitality banking and insurance sharemarkets bfsi retail ecommerce pharma: every industry possible, I wrote for.
– Social Media Management and Digital Marketing: This was thrilling! We’d launched the first Ultimate Table Tennis League at the time, and were responsible for the digital footprints of Shazé Challengers and the Mavericks. And then of course there were a few other brands and projects too.
– Online Reputation Management: Managing the back-end for a Beauty Pageant (or any event) is seriously underrated. Frankly this wasn’t my preferred choice, but this role was a humbling and resilient, crucial experience.
3) Then came the coolest gig as co-jock at Mirchi. Short stint, but the biggest laughs and best times came out of here.
4) Parallely, I built a foundation for my first business. French Language Coaching. I ran my own business + part-timed at 2 international schools and a junior college. Trained folks aged 3 to 83! Across all Boards, Faculties, and even Continents!
This was my longest stint of 8 years; and by far one that’s shaped me and taught me the most.
5) After having experienced the best of business and job worlds, I knew it was time to pivot. These stints made me realise the gap in expectation and outcomes. Social and people fabric was amiss. I identified the dire need for upskilling, and adding a touch of humaneness to the businesses.
That’s how Réflexions was born.
None of this came easy. And it sure made me work doubly hard as I was managing my college attendance, assessments, projects, events and fests, special projects, exams and scores; all while having a full-blown business and being responsible for others’ scores too!
To the decade that went by,
Thank you for the resilience, tenacity, lessons and learnings.
To the decade that’s to come,
Bring it on!
10 years and 7 industries later…
